About the Oregon State Button Society

The Oregon State Button Society was formed in 1948 at a time when hobbies of collection were popular. Button clubs and societies popped up all around the country. Many of those collections of our great grandmothers, whether large or small have been passed to relatives, and made their way to antique stores and now onto Etsy and Ebay. And who among us doesn’t remember sorting buttons from our mothers’ and grandmothers’ button boxes and cookie tins?

Those of us who have discovered a local button club find that the history learned, art appreciated, and good friends made have enriched us in many ways! We see ourselves as stewards of these historical artifacts. We value and preserve these fasteners, trim, and related items too, as well as the stories they tell.

Join us at a meeting, call us for a consultation, or come to our annual show and sale. There is no requirement to purchase buttons. Only the desire to have fun, learn, and appreciate or create with them.

The $20 annual membership includes a welcome kit, three seasonal information bulletins, member- only activities including two workshops and a summer picnic. Local clubs are independent of the society and may have very minimal or no yearly dues, and monthly meetings. Join both. Come collect with us!
